2005年5月至2006年6月之間，我在新竹誠品當說故事志工。我跟小米跟閃閃三個人輪流，每月固定一次星期日在三樓的兒童館說故事，每次三十分鐘，可以說故事、玩遊戲、做活動。因為有三個人共同負責一個地點，所以整年下來我只主講了五次，其他夥伴說故事的時候就在一旁幫忙，偶爾也要準備上場替補，但自從我的第一場痛苦的示範之後，大家都會排演，所以都沒出過什麼狀況。
近年說故事的風潮興盛，圖書館、教室甚至出現了故事屋，但在書店說故事難度超高。其他環境封閉，可以安安靜靜的說，小朋友不容易分心，但在書店要隨時應付剛加入的朋友，若說得太無聊，小朋友就直接回頭跟媽媽說：「我想回家」。啊！打擊呀！還是有小撇步，就是盡量說「新鮮」的故事，外文的新書更好。第二次不但聽故事的小朋友越來越多，其他站在旁邊翻書的大人，眼神也一直往這邊飄，而中間讓小朋友休息的串場活動也很完美(因為專注力低，故事說了十五分鐘就得變個遊戲串場)，說完，就突然覺得自己頭上多了個光環！哈哈哈！
喜歡跟小朋友在一起，是因為他們喜歡新鮮、專注力低，所以如果要吸引他們就得不斷不斷的變化，雖然每次來聽故事的小朋友都不同，但總是會想辦法變出不一樣的招術。有次要說環遊世界的故事，所以自己還準備了道具，用圖畫紙跟筷子做出國畫般卷軸，然後將去過的幾個國家的相關圖片貼在卷軸上，當天就讓現場小朋友抽籤方式決定故事順序，講的時候再慢慢轉動卷軸說，非常幸運的是當天聽故事的小朋友大概都已經國小了，所以每個人都很「入戲」，事後回想如果都是幼稚園的小孩，就通通聽不懂，我就死定了！
雖然講的時候壓力很大，但是小朋友的反應是很及時的。有些人會為了抽不到籤難過，有些會因為你的稱讚而有笑容。只有一次在書店遇到同事帶老大來聽，雖然那天沒讓她抽到籤很失望，可是結束之後她還是有高興的來打招呼，那天回家超級開心的。還有一次就是去Joe學長家烤肉的時候說給小孩聽，他們家的老二聽的口水直流(他爸爸說本來就愛流口水啦)。每當辛苦或煩悶的時候，想起小朋友的笑容就覺得沒什麼好計較的。
2005年8月我就調到台北工作了，直到2006年6月間，假日回新竹彩排、說故事，成了台北與新竹生活的連結，讓我能夠適應獨自待在台北的孤單，現在假日當然又有別的事情忙碌了，也因為工作得結束志工生活，但是這段故事在生命裡留下甜美的、緊張的回憶，卻怎麼都說不完。
